We are delighted to welcome you to our Evening Webinar with Dr Bradley Hillier who will be presenting on LGBTQ+ mental health and minority stress - how to make your practice LGBTQ+ friendly!

LGBTQ+ people are known to have significantly higher rates of mental health problems and substance use/addiction, as well as other poor health outcomes, including physical health.

This webinar will describe the current issues relating to mental health and substance use in LGBTQ+ people, as well as the difficulties that they experiencing accessing care, drawing on research in this area. We will explore the concept of Minority Stress and explain how this has been demonstrated to provide an overarching explanation through shame, internalised homophobia and self-stigma to result in increased rates of mental health and addiction problems. We will also explore ways that clinics can approach their practice towards LGBTQ+ people to improve engagement and access, and demonstrate a minority-stress sensitive environment.
