Evening Webinar: Why concepts of trauma in mental health are overused and outdated

Event Details

We are delighted to welcome you to our Evening Webinar with Dr Filippo Passetti who will be presenting on Why concepts of trauma in mental health are overused and outdated

Trauma is increasingly used to explain a wide range of mental health issues, yet imprecise concepts may hinder rather than help patient understanding. Emerging theories from cognitive neuroscience and information technology offer a new framework for understanding human experience through brain function. Predictive Processing (PP) suggests that the brain actively generates simulations of the world, which shape our experience more than sensory input. This shift challenges traditional trauma-focused narratives, proposing PP as a more accurate basis for psychological reformulation. This talk explores how these insights can transform clinical practice and deepen our understanding of mental distress.

Learning objectives:

  •   You will learn that the world is not what it seems, that you shouldn’t believe everything your brains tells you and that perception is not quite what we were taught at medical school.
  •  Why and how your PP should be used in explaining mental disorders to our patients.
