About the session
More than 90% of people carry at least one genetic variant that affects how they respond to common medicines, yet most prescribing still relies on trial and error. Pharmacogenomics (PGx) testing gives clinicians a clearer picture of how an individual is likely to respond, helping to reduce adverse drug reactions and avoid ineffective treatment.
Join Mantara Health and the Independent Doctors Federation for a practical look at how PGx fits into everyday independent practice:
- The evidence behind PGx, including the PREPARE study published in The Lancet, which found a 30% reduction in clinically relevant adverse drug reactions with genotype-guided prescribing
- Which medicines and specialties benefit most, from clopidogrel to antidepressants, statins and pain relief
- How testing works: a simple saliva sample, turnaround and how results are reported
- Access and reimbursement, with CCSD codes now in place for both the full PGx panel and the clopidogrel test
- Q&A, with time to discuss your own patients and practice
Breakfast is served from 9:00am. Places are limited, so please register early.
Who should attend
The session is designed for clinicians and healthcare leaders who prescribe, dispense or shape how medication is managed, including:
- Private GPs and concierge medicine doctors
- Consultants, particularly in cardiology, psychiatry, pain medicine and general medicine
- Pharmacy owners, superintendent pharmacists, and clinical and community pharmacists
- Primary care executives and leaders, including PCN and practice leadership teams
- Employee wellbeing, occupational health and corporate health leads
- Clinic owners and medical directors considering adding PGx testing to their services
No prior knowledge of genetics is needed. You'll leave with a clear understanding of when to test, how to read a PGx report and how testing could fit into your practice, pharmacy or organisation.
