Primary Care Metrics Project

IDF have completed a collaborative project with Independent Healthcare Providers Network (IHPN) and CHKS. The project, initiated by IDF, was to identify a set of primary care metrics and develop a ‘proof of concept’ tool to support their collection from independent primary care providers. CQC were a key driver and stakeholder in this project. 

The key output of the project is a ‘proof of concept’ excel data collection and analysis tool which can be developed into an online tool, similar to the CHKS iCompare tool used in hospitals throughout the UK. This will enable independent providers of primary care to benchmark their performance against other similar providers across important indicators of safety and care, introducing an important quality improvement tool into this sector.  

CQC are delighted with the progress made to date and look forward to it being taken to a level where all providers of primary care in the independent sector would be able to submit their data and gain quality insights. This should improve consistency in quality within healthcare.
