More than networking: Reflections on an Evening on the Thames
Last month, we were delighted to welcome members, corporate members and guests to An Evening on the Thames, one of the highlights of our events calendar and a wonderful opportunity to bring our community together in a relaxed and engaging setting.
While events like these are often described as networking opportunities, they are about so much more than exchanging business cards or making professional introductions. They provide a chance for our members to connect with colleagues, engage with the IDrF and feel part of a wider professional community. It was fantastic to see so many members, partners and guests come together and to feel the energy throughout the evening.
A celebration of our community
At its heart, An Evening on the Thames was a celebration of the IDrF community.
Bringing together members, corporate members and wider stakeholders in such a unique setting created the perfect environment for meaningful conversations and genuine connection. Beyond simply meeting new people, attendees had the opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, share experiences and strengthen professional relationships across the independent healthcare sector.
The evening also provided an important opportunity for members to engage directly with the people behind the organisation. From our leadership team and Committee Chairs to the wider IDrF staff team, conversations throughout the evening helped showcase the work we do on behalf of our members and the support available through the organisation.
One of our key objectives was to create greater visibility of the advocacy, education, networking and professional support that IDrF provides. By bringing members and stakeholders together in a more informal setting, we were able to facilitate discussions that deepened understanding of our work while highlighting the value of membership.
Building connections that matter
Creating meaningful connections is central to what we do, and An Evening on the Thames demonstrated the power of bringing people together beyond a formal educational environment.
Throughout the evening, doctors, industry partners and healthcare stakeholders came together to exchange ideas, share perspectives and explore opportunities for collaboration. These interactions are fundamental to the IDrF's role in supporting professional networks and fostering relationships that benefit both our members and the wider independent healthcare sector.
We were also delighted to work alongside sponsors and partners who helped make the event such a success. Their support enhanced the delegate experience and created additional opportunities for engagement with our membership community. We were particularly proud of the IDrF gift bags, which proved to be a popular addition to the evening.
As we continue to grow our events programme, these partnerships play an increasingly important role in helping us deliver high-quality experiences while creating additional value for both our corporate and doctor members.
Looking ahead
An Evening on the Thames reinforced the importance of creating opportunities for members to connect beyond our educational programme. The enthusiasm, conversations and new relationships formed throughout the evening reminded us just how valuable these moments of connection can be.
As we continue to develop the IDrF events calendar, we remain focused on delivering experiences that foster community, support professional relationships and strengthen the value of membership. We are excited to build on the success of this event with more opportunities for members to come together later this year and into 2027, including our upcoming Winter Socials.
Finally, I would like to recognise our incredible IDrF team. We may be a small team, but we are passionate about what we do and deeply committed to supporting our members. Everyone worked tirelessly to make An Evening on the Thames an experience to remember, and seeing so many people enjoying the event made every effort worthwhile.
We are always looking at how we can make each event bigger, better and more valuable than the last, and An Evening on the Thames was a wonderful reminder of the strength of our community and the importance of bringing people together.
