We are delighted to welcome you to our lunch webinar with Miss Marie-Klaire Farrugia who will be presenting on UTI’s and wetting in children: initial management and recommendations for further investigation.

UTI’s in babies and children are common and cause much concern to parents and clinicians alike: when is there risk of renal injury? When is referral warranted? What is the underlying cause, and when could surgical treatment be indicated? Should we actively look for and treat vesico-ureteric reflux? What about late onset recurrent cystitis in teenagers? Although UTI guidelines exist, they are long and complex to recall. Similarly, delays in toilet-training often raise questions on when to investigate further, as well as the pros and cons of medical management. These are frequent concerns dealt with in Paediatric Urology clinics, and the webinar will cover initial management and suggest when expert advice is warranted.

Learning objectives:

  • UTI guidelines made simple: a logical approach to UTI’s in children
  • Understand the baseline management of UTI’s and wetting in children, and know when to refer
  • Understand which initial investigations may be warranted and what to request of radiologists
  • Be more aware of which underlying conditions could present with these symptoms
