Mr Simon Marsh: General Surgery

Simon Marsh trained at Trinity College Cambridge and the Clinical School, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, being awarded the William Harvey Studentship in consecutive years.  He qualified in 1987, receiving the London FRCS in 1992.

In 1996 he was awarded an MD on the molecular biology of breast cancer by the University of Cambridge and received the Intercollegiate Fellowship in General Surgery. In 1999, he was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon in Colchester, specialising in diseases of the beast and surgical oncology. In the same year he was invited to join the team at 108 Harley Street where he is member of The Breast Clinic (and MDT lead) and Surgical Director of the Gilmore Groin and Hernia Clinic He is a co-founder of the Essex Biomedical Science Institute and established the MD research programme at the University of Essex, where he is an Honorary Senior Lecturer.

The Breast Clinic at 108 Harley Street has been described as the longest running, fully independent breast clinic in central London. It offers appointments for one stop breast assessment within 24 hours with imaging, including not only mammograms and ultrasound scans, but also tomosynthesis mammography and contrast enhanced mammography where appropriate.

1. Understand absolute and relative risk
2. How to work out an individual’s breast cancer risk
3. How to devise appropriate breast screening strategies
